Keyvisual

For Module 4: “Signs & Images - Knowledge made visible”, graffiti artist Ed Oner has created an impressive key visual that artistically addresses the connection between archaeology, culture and knowledge. The image shows a group of people coming together in a cave to create rock art on the walls - a symbolic motif for the early recording of knowledge and experience. The atmosphere of the cave conveys an intimate, communal act of preserving and passing on knowledge.

A special feature of the work is the hole in the cave wall that allows a view of the outside. This opening is in the shape of the African continent, creating a deeper connection to the lived history and origins of knowledge in Africa. The work subtly connects the past with the present and opens up space for reflection on the way knowledge has been preserved, transformed and passed on over millennia.

With this artwork, Ed Oner realizes the theme of the exhibition with artistic freedom and precise symbolism, capturing the origins of knowledge in a visual form while pointing us to the global context of knowledge sharing and preservation.
