The Eswatini National Museum

Lobamba

The Eswatini National Museum is an important part of the Department of Cultural Heritage and is managed by the Eswatini National Trust Commission. The main purpose of the museum is to collect, preserve and conserve the country's cultural heritage for future generations. The collected materials are presented in various exhibition rooms. Trained museum educators convey the contents to visitors. The exhibitions cover the history of EmaSwati - from the Stone Age to the colonial era and the country's independence.

One of the highlights of the museum is the temporary exhibition hall, which presents annual thematic exhibitions in accordance with the international guidelines of the International Council of Museums. Another important area is the natural history wing, which shows the relationship between the EmaSwati and their environment. Particularly impressive is the miniature village layout, which recreates a typical Swazi homestead and provides a visual aid for visitors and students.

The museum offers an extensive education program that includes guided tours for local and international schools and colleges. There is also a special program for pre-schools and an outreach program that allows museum educators to visit schools and communities to teach cultural topics such as “Umhlanga”, “Imvunulo”, “Umtsimba” and more.

In addition, the museum's library services are available to all interested parties, especially researchers and students working on cultural heritage topics. Here you will find valuable materials on a variety of topics, including history, medicinal plants, traditional Eswatini medicine and cultural customs.
